So I was resolved my necklace was gone and life continued.
rat started shopping for one online and got my approval for one that was close to the original. He paid for it and I walked out of the room. As I walked toward the kitchen I looked down at the braided rug I made a long time ago and noticed something peeking out from under one edge. I turned on the light and called rat into the room.
I pointed and there it was - my necklace.
I immediately picked it up, put it on and told rat to RUN to the computer and cancel the order. He did successfully.
I was happy again. Then it fell off a few hours later so I handed it over to rat and told him to please get it fixed. I had tried to fix it myself but it seems the house gremlins took my jewelry tools in payment for my necklace.
He took it to a jewelry store down the street and they cleaned it (all the little diamonds are sparkly again). They're currently fixing the chain and putting on a better clasp so it will stop unhooking.
So eventually my little heart will be back on my neck where it belongs. What a great Thanksgiving gift!
It was a small simple necklace - just a little white gold heart with a tiny diamond chip - but rat gave it to me on Valentine's Day years and years ago and I wore it almost every day.
It's my own fault it's gone now. The clasp was faulty because it kept coming undone and falling off me, but every time I tested it in my hands it was fine so I'd put it back on. I guess I was stubborn about that, and so used to having it on me all the time, except when bathing and sleeping.
The last time I know I was wearing it was Monday when I had my MRI. rat says he remembers me having it on that evening. So it could have fallen off in many places since that day and I wouldn't have noticed. I didn't notice until I reached up to take it off last night and it was gone. Yes, it hurts, but rat says it's okay and not to be concerned about it - things like this happen.
So I told him I know what he'll have to get me for Xmas.
